How To Make A Wedding Veil
Making your own wedding veil really isn't that hard
to do! Take a look at these simple tips:
Having a wedding veil that you made yourself (or that a friend
or family member made for you) is precious. It becomes a precious
wedding heirloom to pass down for your daugter to wear at
her wedding...and it saves you money now! Even if you feel
challenged by using a needle and thread - making a wedding
veil really isn't that difficult!
The average veil in a bridal boutique can run you upwards
of $50-$200! (Of course, designer veils and those with extra
embellishments will cost even more). If you go to a craft
store and buy the materials needed to make a wedding veil
it will probably be around $30 or less!
There are so many different veil styles and decorations you
can choose from! The first step really is selecting the style
of veil you want. The way you make your veil will depend on
the style and embellishments you select. (Make sure the style
goes with your gown style). So, how to go about making your
veil?:
1. Search around the Internet for wedding veil styles. Print
out a photo of the style you have selected.
2. This is a common list of what you will need to make most
veils. Most of these can be found at your local arts and crafts,
fabric or floral supply stores.
* White floral wire
* Heavy button hole thread to gather top edge of tulle (tulle
is the fabric used in most veils)
* Silk flowers/pearls/beads (depending on what you will be
using)
* Velcro (if veil is to be detachable)
* Fabric from dress or similar fabric to cover head frame
* Wide ribbon to cover the inner portion of the headpiece
* Batting to add dimension if using a headband or barrette
* Plastic combs to keep headpiece/veil in place.
Once you have decided on the style and you have gathered
the items necessary to make your veil, it is time once again
to get creative. If you know how to sew, then you probably
won't have a lot of problems. But, if you need some help,
talk to some family members and see if there is anyone who
can give you a hand. Your craft store can also be a great
help. Sometimes they even offer classes - or may be willing
to give you a class - on how to make a veil.
Jo-Ann Fabrics is a great resource and fabric/crafts store,
they carry tulle, and other veil components at very reasonable
prices.

Another tip: If your wedding dress has beads or sequins on
it, see if you can get some extra from the store you buy your
dress. That way, you can use the exact beads or sequins used
on your dress on your veil.
Remember - this is supposed to be fun and to save you some
money! If you get too stressed out or just aren't enjoying
it, find a good friend and ask for help! Or, go out and buy
your wedding veil.
